{"id":29580,"date":"2017-09-27T19:02:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T18:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citywomen.co.uk\/wp2016\/?page_id=29580"},"modified":"2018-05-07T15:00:45","modified_gmt":"2018-05-07T14:00:45","slug":"gwen-rhys-shrieval-candidate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gwenrhys.com\/index.php\/gwen-rhys\/gwen-rhys-shrieval-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I&#8217;m seeking your support"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Born in Milford Haven, raised in Neath and made in the City.<\/h4>\n<p>Little did anyone imagine that one day I would be putting my hat in the ring as a Prospective Non-Aldermanic Sheriff for the City of London.<\/p>\n<p>But like Dick Whittington and many others before me, I came to London seeking my fortune, lured by the pavements lined with gold.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_29637\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29637\" style=\"width: 153px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29637\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/citywomen.co.uk\/wp2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/CJ-wine-225x300.jpg?resize=153%2C204\" alt=\"\" width=\"153\" height=\"204\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-29637\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CJ &#8211; old and tipsy!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just as Dick had his famous cat, I was joined along the way by some cats one of whom had the audacity in 2015 to impersonate the Lord Mayor thereby causing me to be<a href=\"http:\/\/gwenrhys.com\/index.php\/master-glass-seller\/master-raises-1500-for-red-cross\/\"> Jailed in the Tower of London<\/a> released only when sufficient people put up my bail money.\u00a0 Thankfully Pol Roger supplied the water rations, so it wasn\u2019t such a bad experience and together my fellow Livery Company Masters and I raised over \u00a330k for the Red Cross.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Have I made my fortune in the City?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Certainly, the City has enabled me to earn my living, but it has given me so very much more.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The City has given me the opportunity to:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet the most amazing people<\/li>\n<li>Give back through the charitable giving of the Livery Companies of which I am a member<\/li>\n<li>Support future generations, in particular through encouraging greater diversity in the workplace, mentoring young people and developing initiatives that shine a spotlight on talented City professionals<\/li>\n<li>Take advantage of the City\u2019s many cultural offerings (it has concert halls, museums\u00a0 and art galleries)<\/li>\n<li>Eat in fine restaurants and hang out in hostelries<\/li>\n<li>Rest my weary feet and troubled mind in the tranquillity of its churches<\/li>\n<li>Walk my socks off on Hamptead Heath<\/li>\n<li>And \u2026 so very much more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>In short \u2013 I want to give back to the City that has shaped me and made me who I am.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I want to play my small part in paying forward by serving the Lord Mayor in the role of Non-Aldermanic Sheriff of what is one of the world\u2019s greatest Cities \u2013 a melting pot of people, a catalyst for ideas and somewhere that I am proud to call \u201chome\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For me, putting people together, making connections and reaching out to a wider world are part of my DNA and I can think of no better way of using these attributes than serving as Sheriff.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a Liveryman, I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll agree with me what a special honour it is to be part of something that has been around for centuries and contintiues to be relevant.<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re not a Liveryman \u2013 why not <a href=\"http:\/\/gwenrhys.com\/index.php\/contact-gwen-rhys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>connect<\/strong><\/a> with me and find out more!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gwenrhys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Hustings-Speech-22-March-2018-GR-p.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more<\/a> about what I can bring to the Civic Party in 2018-19.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gwenrhys.com\/index.php\/list-of-supporters\/sign-up-to-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SIGN UP and support my campaign<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Born in Milford Haven, raised in Neath and made in the City.
