Innovation Team Leader
Rob Ireson is passionate about glass, always keen to exploit the potential of this exciting material in new applications that can change the way we live.
He has been in the role of Innovation Team Leader at Glass Technology Services Ltd, Sheffield, since July 2012. He is responsible for coordinating the long term development projects, that GTS is involved with, and for developing new and innovative opportunities for glass-related research across a wide range of sectors, including biomaterials, photonics and lasers, sensors, glass 3D printing, solar technologies, nuclear energy, oil & gas extraction and biochemical processing.
Rob Ireson is also responsible for developing partnerships with academic and industry experts across Europe. Whenever he gets the chance, he also likes to get involved with the hands on technical work, with experience of formulating new glass compositions, building furnaces, melting glass and use of a wide range of analytical techniques.
Rob graduated with an MSc in Natural Sciences, Materials Science and Metallurgy from Cambridge University in 2003. He joined GTS with over seven years’ experience in R&D and project management at Tata Steel, developing a wide range of novel coatings and coating processes for steel substrates.
